CPEC to Boost Economic Activities in All Provinces: Qayyum

Islamabad—Senator Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Abdul Qayyum said that China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a comprehensive project that will develop roads, railways and infrastructure in the country. Talking to media, he said a special attraction of the project is the establishment of economic zones along the route of this corridor, which will increase the business and trade opportunities.

He said government is giving special focus on economic development of the country and China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is part of its vision to take the country forward. Chairman, Trade Development Authority of Pakistan S. M. Muneer also said that Chinese President visited Pakistan and signed on various projects and MoUs which is a manifestation of deep bonds of friendship between the two countries.

He said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is taking keen interest in developing the economy and he has been inviting foreign investors to invest in various sectors of Pakistan. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is also taking personal interest in the monitoring of progress on the economic projects, he added. He said during the tenure of present government, a number of agreements have been signed to increase the production of energy in the country, which upon completion will bring an economic revolution in Pakistan.

Economist Dr. Shahid Hassan Siddiqui said China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a gigantic project and upon its completion it will greatly benefit the two countries. This project will change the fate of Pakistan. He said economic zones will be set up along the route of this corridor and infrastructure will be developed. It will also enhance the trade activities.

Balochistan will greatly benefit from this project and we will have to improve our tax system to make it effective, he added. He said agriculture development activities need to be activated in the province to boost confidence of people and Prime Minister also needs to take the leaders of all political parties onboard regarding this project. Political forces should also help and support the government in completing these projects, he added.
