Chinese journalists meet TDAP chief

A three-member Chinese journalists' delegation belonging to Guangzhou daily group on Wednesday called on the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan's (TDAP) chief executive, S M Muneer, here on Wednesday. The delegation members include Liu Xing, Wang Yan and Wang Yuehua.

According to a press release, the purpose of the delegation's visit was to discuss the trade matters between Pakistan and China and to highlight the same in the Chinese media. The TDAP chief executive praised the role of China, saying China and Pakistan enjoyed all-weathered friendship.

Apprising Chinese journalist team about the volume of trade between Pakistan and China, the TDAP chief it was in the favour of China and a Chinese delegation will visit Islamabad next week to discuss expansion about items in Pak-China FTA. The delegation was also told Pakistan in view of encouraging response and increased buying power has enhanced its participation in Chinese trade fairs. Exports of Pakistan's leather, marble and other products and handcrafts have increased considerably in the last three to five years as such products are liked in China, he added. Elaborating, he said, exponential rise in sea food exports to China has also been witnessed, besides Chinese companies are also investing in sea food sector to get the maximum benefit from this sector.

Describing Kunming Fair of China as one of the best fairs, Muneer said that Pakistani exporters are keen to participate in the fair because of its trade and export potential.

He further added that Pakistan was importing lots of goods from China. He hoped that the Chinese government keeping in view strong relations between China and Pakistan would encourage its businessmen to import from Pakistan. Director General (Asia) Javaid Akhter provided data relating to trade between Pakistan to the Chinese journalists for highlighting the same in their country's media. Director General (Agro Food) Dr M Yousuf Khan briefed the delegation about the agro food trade between both the countries, saying that although there is no trade barrier as far as Pakistan's agro food products are concerned, higher freight costs creating difficulties for the exporters of Pakistan.-PR
