Thursday, August 07, 2014 - Islamabad—A two-day think-tank seminar “Building ‘China-Pakistan Community of Shared Destiny’ in new era,” concluded here on Wednesday.

Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed, Chairman, Senate Defence Committee was the keynote speaker on the concluding day.

Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed welcomed the proactive political and diplomatic role of China towards Afghanistan which includes the appointment of a Special Chinese Envoy for Afghanistan, hosting of an international conference on Afghanistan for the first time in China as well as greater coordination between Beijing and Islamabad regarding Afghanistan.

He also announced the Pakistan-China Institute (of which he is the chairman) would be hosting a trilateral think tanks conference of Pakistan, China and Afghanistan in October 2014 in Islamabad.

The embassy of China and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had jointly organised the seminar which was attended by over 100 Chinese and Pakistani officials and scholars. Earlier on Tuesday, while addressing the opening ceremony, Chinese ambassador to Pakistan Sun Weidong said a peaceful, developing and increasingly powerful China means more opportunities for development, strong mutual support and expanding common interests to Pakistan.

“We need to transform the deep friendly emotions into tangible fruits of cooperation to consolidate the foundation of bilateral relations, raise up the level of cooperation and bring more benefits to the two peoples,” said Sun.

“China’s economy can be regarded as a blue chip, a rising and potential stock, with a big economy, large foreign exchange reserves and broad market.

In particular, the population in the central, western and northeastern regions accounts for over 60 percent of the national total, and per capita GDP has just exceeded US $5,000,” said the ambassador.
