Pak COAS, Gen Sharif, embarks on maiden China visit

ISLAMABAD - Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Raheel Sharif, left for China on Monday on his first ever visit after assuming the command of Pakistan Army. The army chief was seen off at Nur Khan Air Base by senior military officials.
According to the statement issued by ISPR, it is an official visit at the invitation of Chinese defence authorities and during the visit the COAS will call on China's political and military leadership.
The interaction will encompass Pak-China relations with particular emphasis on defence and security cooperation, it was further stated in the statement.
Keeping in view the diversifying military scenario of the region, the visit is being considered of great significance, during which, new defence pacts would likely be inked between the two time-tested neighbours.
PUNJAB CM MEETS ARMY CHIEF
Online adds: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif met Army Chief Gen Raheel Sharif on Monday and discussed with him matters of mutual interest.
Shahbaz Sharif and the army chief discussed the President’s address to the joint parliament session, terming it historic and quite balanced.
