Chinese scholars delegation visits NUML

Islamabad: An 18-member delegation of Chinese scholars of different universities visited National University of Modern Languages (NUML) for exchanging their experiences.


The delegation was headed by Professor Dr Tang Meng Sheng, Director Centre for Pak Studies, Foreign Languages, Urdu Department, in Peking University (PKU), China, and it also included Professor Kong Julan, Head of Urdu Department, Foreign Languages, PKU, Mrs Yuan Jian, Columnist at Singapore Committee of Arts and many other PhD scholars in the area of Urdu, Sanskrit, Buddhism, South Asian Studies and Archaeology.


The delegation also met the Rector Major General (r) Masood Hasan and had detailed discussion on the issues of students, teachers, scholars and intellectuals exchanges between Pakistan and China.


Professor Dr Tang Meng Sheng during his meeting with Rector told that Chinese students had interest in knowing and understanding Urdu language, culture, society, and sites which were great attraction for the Chinese archaeologists. He said that Urdu had a special role in promotion of Pak-China relations and NUML was doing a tremendous job for the promotion of Urdu in China.


He told the delegation comprised of scholars who were pursuing their doctoral degrees in the filed of Eastern languages like Urdu and Sanskrit, Buddhism, South Asian Studies and archaeology.


He said during the visit to Pakistan Chinese scholars had opportunity to meet Pakistani scholars and shared their interests, experiences and sought help in their concerned fields. “The intellectuals and scholar exchange would cater the need of ours and yours students,” he added. Speaking at the occasion, Rector NUML Major General (r) Masood Hasan said “China is Pakistan’s time tested friend and there are wide range of areas where both have bilateral agreements, collaborations, and exchanges. The particular area of academic scholar exchanges needs a little more attention. Such scholar exchange can add more warmth and good will in our relations”, he added.


The member of delegation also visited the different departments including Urdu language and literature department, Chinese Language, and central library of the university where they were briefed by the head of respective department.
