Pakistan official applauds CPC's leadership

To mark the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC), CCTV has spoken to Pakistani politician Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

He spoke highly of the leadership of the CPC and said its development has brought a positive impact to regional affairs.

“The CPC leaders have been promoting bilateral ties since the founding of the People’s Republic of China,” Sayed said. “And the Party has achieved one of the most remarkable economic miracles in the world. Within one generation, 25 years, 600 million people were lifted out of poverty.”

Relations between China and Pakistan have expanded rapidly. China’s investment in the country is mainly targeted at energy projects. Last year, Chinese President Xi Jinping announced a 46 billion US dollars’ worth of infrastructure spending plan in Pakistan.

It was a significant hike compared with Chinese investment over the past decade. Foreign direct investment from China was 1.88 billion US dollars in 2014 and 1.3 billion US dollars the year before.

The plan, known as the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, is a centerpiece of Beijing’s proposed Belt and Road initiative, which aims to open new trade and transport routes across Asia.

Both sides have welcomed the project. Beijing wants to open new trade routes between China and Central and South Asia, as Karachi attempts to address critical energy shortages to boost Pakistan’s economic growth.
