Exemplary cordial relations exist with China: PM

KARACHI: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has said that exemplary cordial relations and cooperation is present between China and Pakistan especially in field of energy as this friendship bonding would be further strengthened.

The PM said this on Thursday as he performed here the inauguration of concrete pouring ceremony for construction of Karachi Nuclear Power Plant-II (K-II) near the site of Kanupp. He said that K-II project was concrete evidence of cooperation between China and Pakistan in field of nuclear-based energy production.

He said that China had been playing an important role in improvement of Pakistani economy while China had also rendered relentless support to Pakistan on international level on many accounts. He said the K-II and K-III projects would give further rise to friendship bonding between China and Pakistan.

Nawaz Sharif said that he was very pleased with performing concrete pouring of K-II project while deal for building Chashma-I nuclear power plant had also been signed during his term in power. He said that this deal had paved way for forging foreign cooperation in field of nuclear cooperation.

He said the nuclear power generation unit no 01 and 02 were best energy projects in the country generating 600 Megawatts electricity on most inexpensive rates. Nawaz Sharif said he was pleased that two more nuclear power plants i.e. Chashma unit 03 and unit 04 would also start generating 630 MWs electricity next year with assistance of a Chinese company.

Moreover, K-II and K-III projects are being built near to Kanupp, which had been generating electricity with success for last 43 years. He also thanked on the occasion the Chinese delegation, nuclear power authority of China, and also Exim Bank of China for providing assistance for such modern energy projects.

The PM said on the occasion that economic analysts had acknowledged decisive efforts of the government for restoration of peace situation owing to which inflation rate had been brought down while business activities had been accelerated in the country.

“Today transparency has been prevailing here, confidence of investors has been restored while we have been trying to further improve the positive image of the country for outside world,” said the PM.

He said that his government had given top priority to the cause of ending power load shedding from the country. He said the country had been facing different challenges. While mission of martyred Home minister of Punjab ShujaKhanzada for implementing National Action Plan against terrorism, would not end with his demise but instead be furthered with full force.

He condemned the recent attack on life of MNA of MuttahidaQuami Movement Abdul Rashid Godil saying that such acts would not cause at all to weaken resolve and efforts of the government against terrorism and lawlessness.

He said that law-enforcement agencies concerned would continue fulfilling their obligations till complete restoration of peace situation while no obstacle would be tolerated on this front at all. He said that economic progress was achieved in the country through stability of peace situation as no development could be achieved until elimination of terrorism.

He said the international community had expressed their fullest satisfaction over measures and steps being adopted by Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission and Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority for safety and security of nuclear power installations in the country.

The prime minister also praised efforts and services of Pakistan’s atomic energy commission for making progress on projects of power generation using nuclear energy. Chairman Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission Muhammad Naeem said on the occasion planning had been done to construct three more nuclear power plants on the pattern of K-II and K-III. He said that nuclear power plants in Pakistan would be generating 8800 MWs electricity till year 2030.
