Senator Mushahid Hussain, leader of the 7-member PML-N delegation, during his keynote speech at the first meeting of the CPEC Political Parties Joint Consultation Mechanism (JCM), termed the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as a success story. He highlighted the major achievements of CPEC, such as the revival of Gwadar Port and Thar Coal Power project, addressing Pakistan’s chronic energy crisis and employment generation of more than 70,000 for the Pakistani locals. He also said that through CPEC, Pakistan’s image has been transformed, with more and more foreign investors willing to invest in Pakistan.

Beijing, March 20: Senator Mushahid Hussain has termed CPEC a ‘success story' that has changed the image of Pakistan & united the Federation, provinces, Political Parties and Parliament, in the quest for a peaceful and prosperous future for Pakistan and its people’. He made these remarks during his keynote speech at the First Meeting of the CPEC Political Parties Joint Consultation Mechanism (JCM) hosted by the International Department of the Communist Party of China held here. 45 representatives of 9 political parties of Pakistan were present as well as Minister of International Department Song Tao and Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi.

Senator Mushahid Hussain spoke as Leader of the 7-member PML-N Delegation, and he referred to revival of ‘dead projects’ like Gwadar Port and Thar Coal, the resolution of Pakistan’s energy crisis, as well as employment of 70,000 Pakistanis, all thanks to CPEC. Senator Mushahid Hussain referred to the visit of President Xi Jinping to Pakistan on the invitation of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in April 2015, which resulted in signing of 52 agreements, launching CPEC in a big way as the biggest bilateral project of any two countries. He also lauded the Belt & Road Initiative (BRI) of China, of which CPEC is the flagship, as the ‘most important diplomatic and development initiative of the 21st Century’. He cited 3 strategic pluses of CPEC for Pakistan: transforming the image of Pakistan as an investor-friendly destination, uniting all the provinces and political parties of the Federation of Pakistan in a quest for a better tomorrow and promoting Pakistan as the hub of regional connectivity and economic cooperation. He termed CPEC as a ‘national asset’ whose ‘ownership is now in the hands of the people of Pakistan’. The PML-N Delegation includes the provincial Presidents of Balochistan & Sind, Lt Gen (r) Abdul Qadir Baloch and Shah Muhammad Shah, Senator Javed Abbasi, MNAs Romina Khurshid Alam and Dr Darshan, Punjab Assembly MPA Azma Bokhari. The Delegation thanked China for their consistent and unflinching support to Pakistan on all issues, which proved their relationship was now truly that of ‘Iron Brothers’, a termed used by China’s President Xi Jinping to refer to China’s brotherly bond with Pakistan.
