The 1st Belt and Road International Financial Cooperation Summit

Hong Kong: The first Belt and Road International Cooperation Summit kicked off on the 4th of September 2017. The programme commenced with the opening remarks of Dr. Raymond Ho Chung-tai, Chairman of Belt & Road International Financial Cooperation Annual Conference and Chairman of Dashun Foundation. Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Chairman Pakistan-China Institute (PCI) and Chairman Parliamentary Committee on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), represented Pakistan at the inaugural session of the conference.

Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed (Chairman, Parliamentary Committee on CPEC) was keynote speaker at international conference (in Hong Kong recently) on Silk Road, Belt & Road Initiative; where he addressed on role of Pakistan, as the pivotal player as bridge between Southeast Asia & Central Asia in the regional economic cooperation driven by economy, energy, with new ports & pipelines, roads and railways. He said Pakistan, as the best friend and reliable partner of China, is the only country among 65 countries of the Silk Road initiative where the sea and land route meet through Gwadar Port. Pakistan has made tremendous sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and now Pakistan is pursuing building of CPEC, the biggest bilateral development project between any two countries in the history of international relations, which is worth over $ 50 billion, spread over 15 years. He urged closer cooperation between Pakistan and Hong Kong, and said today 22,000 Pakistani students study in China, and more Pakistani students are going to study in Hong Kong, which has 4 universities among the top 50 universities of the world. Senator Mushahid Hussain said the global balance of economic & political power is shifting from West to East and the 21st Century is the Asian Century.

Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing


During the 1st Belt and Road International Financial Cooperation Summit Pakistan-China Institute signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Belt & Road Global Development Alliance (BARGDA) to cooperate on various aspects. Launched by Dashun Foundation, BARGDA has the primary objective of facilitating enterprises, especially small and medium size companies, and professionals in Hong Kong to capitalize on the vast opportunities created by the national strategy “Belt & Road Initiative”. Being a multi-national platform, BARGDA plans to integrate organizations having fair and independent views, professionalism and capabilities to serve the community in Hong Kong in the process of global development in all facets with China Mainland and the ‘Belt & Road’ countries.

Both the parties have agreed to collaborate on multiple initiatives under the Belt and Road Initiative.
