Discussion / meeting with H.E. Zheng Xiaosong, Vice Minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China, on the recent 'Policy Developments and Initiatives in China'.

The Pakistan-China Institute hosted a top level Discussion on the recent Policy Initiatives undertaken by the Communist Party of China on the 6th plenary session of the 18th CPC Central Committee with H.E Zheng Xiaosong, Vice Minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China in Islamabad on Tuesday, 20th Dec. 2016. Senator Mushahid Hussain, Chairman PCI & Parliamentary Committee on CPEC, in his introductory remarks acknowledged the efforts of CPC for bringing stability and security to the world’s most populous country and for making positive contributions to global issues such as climate change.
Senator’s introductory remarks were followed by the Vice Minister’s speech where he said “China’s rapid development has been very attention-grabbing, with China having a GDP of more than 10 trillion dollars, and being the second largest economy in the world”. The Vice Minister was very keen on sharing CPC’s experience and policies with the diverse Pakistani audience. He told the audience that China’s success could not be achieved in isolation from the world but it is due to the openness to the rest of the world.
H.E Xiaosong in his speech condemned corruption and enlightened the audience of China’s plan for sustainable growth to eradicate poverty in the country. He said, “no matter how developed China may become, it will look out for its neighbours,” and talking on Pakistan-China relations he stated, ‘brothers who have gone through thick and thin’.
The Vice Minister concluded his briefing by stating that, “CPEC is a corridor of hope and sharing. We should use this opportunity to strengthen our people-to-people exchanges.”

Deputy Chairman, Mr. Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, in the concluding remarks stated that he is aware that various international forces had been interested in Gwadar for a long time, but Pakistan chose to make an agreement with China because of the trust and respect that underlies their friendship.
Senator Mushahid Hussain said ‘We are grateful to china for its consistent support for Pakistan’s Sovereignty’ while responding to a question during the Q/A session.
The event was attended by the Minister for Ports and Shipping, Mr. Mir Hasil Khan Bezinjo, Acting Ambassador of China , Mr. Zhao Lijian, Parliamentarians, Former Ambassadors, Journalists, and members from top-ranked Think Tanks and Corporate Organisations.
